 Beyond the Niche ~ Why I Chose the Whole Canvas

I am a renegade.

In the modern creative landscape, we are constantly pressured to "niche down."  The experts say to pick one thing, to be one thing or to stay in that one lane.  Our curiosity is treated like it is a bug in the system rather than a feature of our very soul. In true renegade style, this blog is an active refusal to play by those rules.

Choosing a single medium feels like trying to paint a sunset with only one color. It's technically possible, but why would you want to? In this corner of the "interwebs" we are embarking on a multi-medium adventure and exploring these mediums as fully as we can to develop our own expertise.

On any given week, you'll find us:

• In the Studio: Exploring the transparency of watercolors, the magic of charcoal or the precision of a graphite sketch, along with the developing the skills that make things come to life.
• In the Script: Drafting poetry or short stories that express, communicate and touch upon topics that encourage, motivate, inspire or work through things to let go of and heal little corners of our being and others at the same time.
• In the Machine: Pushing digital vertices, rigging models for games and virtual worlds and having a hand at digital sketching and painting.

This isn't about being scattered.  It's about the fact that one medium informs another and all inform understanding of light and shadow to allow us to communicate not just easy and fun topics but difficult dark ones as well.
